Measuring asthma with a peak flow meter
Apeak flow meter, or apeak current meter, is a device with a nozzle that can be blown into. The meter on the peak flow meter shows how much air is exhaled. The peak current is the amount of air that one can exhale at one time. The wider the air flow, the greater the peak current. The value that appears on the meter indicates whether the patient has asthma and whether any relevant medication is working correctly. Asthma temporarily narrows the, causing the peak current to be less than normal.
Digital and analogue peak flow meters
PhysioSupplies has several digital and analogue peak flow meters in our product range. The Vitalograph’s Asma-1 USB-monitor is a digital peak flow meter that is easily connected to a computer via USB connection. This peak flow meter can be used by multiple patients. For this purpose, separate nozzles are available on demand. The standard Peakflowmeter is a lightweight and portable meter designed for easy and accurate asthma control. The Asma-1 Peakflowmeter has extra functions in addition to the normal Peak flow meter. The meter possesses a memory capacity allowing for up to 600 measurements and makes judgements that take into account previously performed tests.
